Are there any support groups in Tasmania. I feel like I'm drowning

I'm located in Queensland, & have found care difficult to attain since being diagnosed, complicated further by my low socio-economic status meaning I can't afford to outlay costs for treatment & must rely on what is available under the public system.
I want to suggest to others with this disorder, or with loved ones who have it, that they check out the work of Marsha Linehan, an American who specialises in BPD research & treatment. Her therapy model, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), was designed specifically to target BPD, & has proven very effective, not only for BPD but for other conditions such as Anxiety, Eating Disorders, Substance Use Disorder, etc. DBT is designed to balance behavioural change, improve problem-solving, and teach emotional regulation through validation, mindfulness, and acceptance. Extensive research has been conducted using this treatment model, over several decades, & results have been hopeful. Some patients have even succeeded in achieving complete remission from the condition, some for many years.
Programs & courses which utilise this model are available in some areas but can be difficult to find, depending on your state. Cost can also be significant as well, with only some places offering health fund rebates if you are eligible. There are quite a few psychologists & counsellors trained in this area, having undertaken further study to receive a qualification to administer it, & they can assist you with it too. And don't forget, a wealth of knowledge is just a Google search away! Google has been more of an asset to me in dealing with this disorder than many of the medical professionals I've encountered along the way.
Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Isabella
I notice you said you try not to drink & did drink every day. Ive noticed that people who drink on medication become morbid in their thoughts & language, their whole demana can change. Its never for the good.
. Its a 1+1=3 situation I feel. the two clash & this then is "mistaken" by Drs & others as part of the disorder which can lead to increases & changes in meds. I hope you dont drink anymore as its affects can be horrible mixed with prescription meds. Even after ceasing medication the effects can still be volitile. The half life of these medications is highly underestimated I feel by many which can bring them unraveled. Success will be easier with a Zero intake of alchol. Hope your life is going great.

Hi @Shaz51, thanks for checking in with us. 🙂 How have I been? Oh, you know, the usual. . . running the gamut of emotions from heartbreak to triumph, sometimes several times daily, as per usual. LOL #BPDlife 😉

All is well in our camp. Looking forward to Christmas, in what ever shape or form it might take & what ever day it might fall.. My fruit cake, well Ive renamed it "fruit power bar". Wasnt what I was expecting but thats how some things roll. No, icing wont fix it, for all you fruit cake geniuses.
Some random thoughts [because they are allowed here]
Im pleased with the incentive of the prisons systems to give "brownie points' to jailers who rehab its guests. Perhaps the MH Sytem might consider something similiar. Never know they might cut loose & possibly use a slightly less prehistoric view of mental wellness & what is needed to maintain or improve it. Perhaps in 2017 MHS might deck their halls to include FUN, FRIENDSHIP & FROVOLITY. Never know, Ive noticed a lot less "jargon" lately so they might be on the rise.
Chatting on this forum has helped my family as its helped me.[more than Google 😉 dare I say] The thing I have learnt about mental health is "dont believe all the hype". Trust yourself & your loved ones, encourage each other with every life event that dose not include MHS. The futher we distanced ourselves, the happier our family becomes. Not denial, just a preference to live life not analyse it.
Thanks again its nice to have someone ask "how you going". Lucky you didnt ask "What do you think?" I might have gone on a rant about the treatment of humans etc. Smiles to All & hope you all see a really funny movie really soon.
