Re: Living with PTSD (Potentially Triggering Material)
Dear @Former-Member
you won’t be shoving me away. At least you are aware of how you are feeling and what it is doing to you. That I think is a first step to managing the feelings. I will post more later, My mother died this morning in Melbourne. I am feeling all sorts of stuff.

Re: Living with PTSD (Potentially Triggering Material)
I do apologise to you all for not responding to all your many posts. It isnt for lack of desire, I just dont seem able to right now. I will try to get around to personal replies when I can. I'm sorry I've been so slack. Feeling very vulnerable right now.
@Zoe7 @Maggie @Former-Member @outlander @Shaz51 @Faith-and-Hope @BlueBay @Peri @Starta
As is typical when I've been recently triggered or feeling particularly low ... I've been doing a spot of poetry. Here is my latest effort about flashbacks, written in the 3rd person.
Flashbacks
Fragile sense of safety, shattered far too easily
A massive trigger, a severe reaction to match
Panic ensues, an urgent need to flee, to escape
The all too familiar feelings returning in a rush
Feelings of nausea and fear, shaking and crying
You know what's happening, you know what to do
It's going to be okay, merely a flashback, not real
The mind cruelly replays the past, the body reacts
Get a grip on things, you can do it ... just breathe
Grounding ... where are you? name what you see
Allow the here and now back in, and calm to return
Now ... walk back out, with your mask firmly in place
You did something which once seemed impossible
Though distressed and badly shaken, you got through
Perhaps you're learning after all, ways to manage this
Perhaps you should be proud, rather than disappointed

Re: Living with PTSD (Potentially Triggering Material)
You should be proud - of so much @Former-Member and getting through yet more flashbacks is just one of them. I know it is not easy when you are in the midst of it all but you get through. Those feelings stay with you in body and mind but again - you get through it all - they are just a few things you need to be proud of because you didn't choose to have this happen to you but you are choosing to live your life despite the pain ...and you are doing an amazing job doing that
