Re: Topic Tuesday // Being a Carer in a Regional Community // Tues 19th March, 7pm AEDT

Alright kicking off discussion point number one!

What are some of the major challenges we face when we care for a loved one as we live in a regional area?

No problem @Determined  🙂 Welcome. Happy to have you here either way Heart

Certainly at Arafmi, we hear from our carers that the main factors are isolation and loneliness. Also, the fact that services are not wide reaching enough to support carers. Many carers we talk to think they are going through it alone and cannot find the help they require, whether that be a local community support group or a friend...

Yes I wonder too if the added layer of being a mental health carer specifically, can make our carer's feel even more isolated due to potential stigma, and a resistance to reach out to services Andrea, @Arafmi_Ltd ?

Absolutely, stigma is a big issue and can hinder carers from opening up for fear of being judged.
