Re: What does RECOVERY look like to you?
Thank you for sharing @Adge . It’s such a well thought out perspective. I’m sorry to hear you have not been given any work. That must be hard.
Well done on working through your challenges.
You are not alone.

Re: What does RECOVERY look like to you?
Thanks @tyme
Especially hard, as I live alone, with no company & very little social interaction.
That's why work was so important, as it gave me some of that.
So virtually none, day to day at present.

Re: What does RECOVERY look like to you?
This sums up why I boycott the NDIS. They view Recovery as the same for everybody. They don't respect my values. And in my brief time with them, they were all about coercion into what the system views as Recovery
My sister with 2 neurodivergent teens describes professionals like that as having "White picket fence ideals". They view recovery as being linked to socialising, having a family and a nice house
If people around me are safe, then I'm recovered enough IMO

Re: What does RECOVERY look like to you?
Interesting view on NDIS. My son finally got some funding but doesn't want me involved as he sees me as interfering and yet calls on me to sooth me. He told the case worker what he needed was a home to live in which would assist him in moving on and now needs an extensive assessment from an OT which may result in no action for years. NDIS is supposed to be about what the client wants not about what the planner sees fit. Within their budget. I would be interested in what others have experienced so I have an idea on how the 'system' work.

Re: What does RECOVERY look like to you?
Hey @DogMan79 ,
I'm sorry to hear about what's happened. I hear the frustrations around people being expected to fit within the system's idea of recovery.
Yes, recovery is very individualised.
So, what would your definition of recovery be?

Re: What does RECOVERY look like to you?
.. my 2cents Worth .. (mounts soap box ..)
- I am not familiar with the term 'recovery' in MH context
- I have had depression and anxiety to greater or lesser extent most of my adult life.
- I still had lots of jobs , some lasted a few years even.
- probs had decades on welfare as well tho tbh.
- I would see recovery as when can be happy , engaged, useful even eg when I went to Uni on the back of an exercise regime, counselling and ADs .. it led to a more meaningful relationship and to a degree, which okay, I did not know how to utilise in the way of employment.
- depression is tricky and it can a be comfortable place to be. I have lived alone at least the 10 years and prob most of my adult life. Friends have dropped off. reasons to visits rels gone or in bad books. Gets harder as you get older. Current signs have been ignoring untouched pushbike, not walking, not doing anything.
- Was pretty obvious in hindsight at least how odd I would have been at brothers when stayed for a week recently. that is where the reality of living alone kicks in. when you are with others for more than a few hours. You run out of things to say. You just sit on lounge mostly. You state things as fact and get shot down time after time then realise had remembered things wrong and accepted that as reality. Company is a mirror of MH. well it can be. maybe thats why four walls can seem so comfy sometimes. Just living inside your own head. lol Thanks for reading if you did. 😊

Re: What does RECOVERY look like to you?
@Adge I know what it feels like to be blackband from work.
I sincerely hope a wonderful job comes out of the blue and lands in your lap.
