Today I found out I signed a new lease which put up my rent a fair bit, it was kinda hidden but it's there. I'm in a I don't know what to do and at the back of my mind is thoughts of if I'm.not here no more problem. I won't act on it but it's getting worse

Re: Reaching out for advise

Hey @Burty007 ,

Thank you for taking the time to share. I'm sorry to hear about these financial struggles you are facing.

Are you currently in the property, and they put it up. Or is it a new property you will move into?

I wonder if today is about stepping back and considering what you need to do next so you have more clarity?

Re: Reaching out for advise

Hey @Burty007 the community is here for you.

It's a suuuuper stressful situation to be in, and I think I would be a bit in shock, and definitely feeling that panic. To me it's not surprising that these thoughts are coming up, and I am so glad that you decided to come connect instead of sitting with them alone.

Do you think it would be helpful to take your mind off things, at least for now? There's always a fair few social chats going on. You can jump into the Newbie's Social Thread or come join tonight's Coffee & Chat. Absolutely no pressure to of course, I think I'm usually about 50/50 on whether I'm up for socialising after a shock like this 😅

I hear how worried you are, totally valid to be - you aren't alone though 😊

Re: Reaching out for advise

Financial stress is one of the worse, because it is out of your hands or out of reach to reel it back in. It then compounds other parts of our lives. Especially when you are already settled in your place and then this happens. Anxiety just goes through the roof and then negativity takes over

Re: Reaching out for advise

@Burty007 @that would freak me out too.

There are some free services to help tenants when they are needing advice. I know it’s scary right now, but the sooner you get some advice the more options you will have. In NSW there is the Tenants Union

https://www.tenants.org.au/ and I’m sure they have similar services in each state. Or you can contact a free financial service through here   https://moneysmart.gov.au/managing-debt/financial-counselling

These organisations exist to provide help to people in all kinds of situations and have seen everything. They won’t judge you
